Most of the public confuses racing boats as Cigarette Boats. The Cigarette Boat is constructed a certain way. Go-fast-boats were originally used for smuggling drugs in the 1980s and 1990s.

In 1969, Don Aronow became involved in power boat racing and formed the Cigarette Racing Team among others. He won a world championship with a 32' boat named "The Cigarette", and the rest is history.
Because of the design and the name, that unique design is called the "Cigarette Boat", which is different than many of the other racing boats.

You usually see these boats on the open ocean for endurance races. They would have trouble racing on lakes and inland waterways. They were constructed for the open water and for speed.

For lakes like Lake Havasu, a ski boat, inboard/outboard, or even a houseboat is a much better choice to enjoy the water and the sights along the shore as you motor along in your boat.

There used to be open water boat races on television in the past, but I haven’t seen them advertised in quite some time.
