lake havasu arizona, lake havasu cityLake Havasu Arizona got its start as a place where boat motors were tested. McCulloch boat motors were tested there, and the owner of the company, Robert McCulloch developed a deep fondness for Lake Havasu, and was solely responsible for the creation of Lake Havasu Arizona, almost single-handedly. He had so much belief in this location that he invested in land there in early 1960, built a hotel, bought a fleet of private planes and 40 white Jeeps, and advertised in magazines showing that this location was a wonderful retreat for people who lived up north in cold winter climates to buy second homes or just stay in the hotel. He also built a chainsaw factory there that created good local jobs. He then bought the London Bridge, reassembled it there, and the rest is history. Today, Lake Havasu Arizona is a destination for students during spring break, a place for people who need to thaw out during the winter, or for locals who work in the various factories and casino-hotels located in Lake Havasu City.
